二、尊者請問

Then many monks approached to where the Lord was, saluted his feet with their heads, thrice walked round him to the right, and sat down on one side.

這時，有許多比丘走到世尊那裡，紛紛用額頭頂禮他的雙足，並繞著他向右繞行三圈，然後在一旁坐下。

At that time the Venerable Subhuti came to that assembly, and sat down.

與此同時，尊者須菩提也來到大眾聚集的會中，坐了下來。

Then he rose from his seat, put his upper robe over one shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, bent forth his folded hands towards the Lord, and said to the Lord:

接著，他從座位中站了起來，將上裙搭在一肩上，右膝跪地，雙手合十，向世尊彎腰鞠躬後，對世尊說：

'It is wonderful O Lord, it is exceedingly wonderful, O Well-Gone, how much the Bodhisattvas, the great beings, have been helped with the greatest help by the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Fully Enlightened One. It is wonderful, O Lord, how much the Bodhisattvas, the great beings, have been favored with the highest favor by the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Fully Enlightened One.

「希有的世尊！菩薩們受到您、如來、無垢者、正遍知者何等的幫助！菩薩們受到您、如來、無垢者、正遍知者無上的付囑！

How then, O Lord, should a son or daughter of good family, who have set out in the Bodhisattva-vehicle, stand, how progress, how control their thoughts?'

他們，世尊！這些開始實行菩薩乘的人，應該在何種狀態中安住？又應該要如何修行？如何降伏他們的心念呢？」

After these words the Lord said to the Venerable Subhuti: 'Well said, well said, Subhuti! So it is, Subhuti, so it is, as you say! The Tathagata, Subhuti, has helped the Bodhisattvas, the great beings with the greatest help, and he has favoured them with the highest favour.

說完這些話，世尊對尊者須菩提說：「很好啊！很好啊！須菩提！的確是如此，須菩提！誠如你所說的：『如來以至高的恩惠幫助了菩薩們，以殊勝的付囑加持了菩薩們。』

Therefore, 'Subhuti, listen well, and attentively! I will teach you how those who have set out in the Bodhisattva vehicle should stand, how progress, how control their thoughts.’

所以，須菩提！仔細地聽著，並生起最善良的意念，我將會告訴你，開始實行菩薩乘的人，應該在何種狀態中安住，應該要如何修行，如何降伏他們的心念。」

'So be it, O Lord', replied the Venerable Subhuti and listened.

「是的，世尊！」尊者須菩提說：「我願在您的身旁好好地聽聞。」
