Death

Death

You said, a few months ago, in a moment of impulse, you made a huge mistake. Over the past hundred days or so, you haven’t been able to rest at night. During your waking hours, you’ve been consumed with worry—about how to handle the situation, how to resolve it, what the worst-case scenario might be, and whether you could endure it.

You said it’s been unbearably painful, that you can’t live your life, can’t calm your mind.

You said, how did it come to this? How did you let yourself become the person you are now?

I have no comforting words to offer, nor any encouragement to give.

Sometimes, we unknowingly make decisions that defy logic or wisdom.

I believe the gambling instinct in every person is far stronger than we realize. It lurks in the corners, waiting for the right moment to leap out like a tiger and take control of everything.

You said you can’t tell anyone what happened, which makes it even more painful. You described this period as less like living and more like being a walking corpse—barely breathing, holding on just enough to resolve the problem, ensuring no one else gets dragged into it.

I wanted to say something, but I didn’t know what to say. I could only listen quietly.

You said you weren’t looking for someone to talk to; you just needed someone to listen—to hear all the bitterness, sourness, difficulties, and pain that have been churning within you for months. You needed an outlet.

We sighed: How can this society have so many malicious people with scheming minds?

We ached: How can this world have so many opportunists preying on those already at rock bottom, exploiting their desperate courage for one last gamble?

The universe sent 阿寺 the blessing of Death.

This tarot card depicts a sorrowful figure sitting on Idaho's Snake River, draped in a dark navy-blue robe with a hood that obscures much of their face. The image evokes a sinking feeling, and the ancestral mask from New Guinea behind them—with its knife-like nose—adds an air of horror and dread.

We all fear death. It’s hard to accept its inevitability. Yet in the universe, in this vibrant world, death is one of life’s constants, as natural as the rising and setting of the sun.

Drawing the Death card in tarot is nothing to fear or worry about.

As The Art of War says, “Throw them into perilous ground, and they will survive. Plunge them into death ground, and they will live.” No one can return to the past to change what has already happened.

The universe, through the Death card, conveys this: while what has occurred may bring sorrow, what follows death is not just grief, sadness, and pain but also liberation, freedom, and a clean break.

Of course, we must not underestimate the power behind death—its accompanying emotions of loss, despair, fear, and anxiety. These waves of unease and dread won’t dissipate easily and will continue to entangle you. You must stay steadfast, holding onto your inner self.

Let go of the pain of past mistakes.

Life is like a cup; the stale water inside must first be poured out before fresh water can flow in, bringing vitality and opportunities for renewal.

Stay strong!

Don’t let your inner demons defeat you.
