In Taiwan, there are several clothes shops on roads, not to mention in shopping malls. It is hard for us to walk by. Therefore, people tend to buy some fashionable clothes even though they are not necessary. They think new clothes can leave a good impression on others. I think it is a bad habit for modern people. The condition causes lots of clothes stuffed in cabinets and factories to make more clothes. Furthermore, a large number of clothes are discarded and burned. This way not only wastes reusable resources but also harms the natural environment.
Thus, I joined the event held by a charitable club in Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), donating unwanted clothes, bags, and shoes to Africa. I collected usable items from my friends and neighbors: 72 pairs of shorts, 315 T-shirt, 135 bags, and 25 pairs of shoes in total. It was meaningful for me to realize that I have too many clothes and how lucky I am. In Africa, people have some foot skin diseases because of not wearing shoes. Moreover, they can’t afford clothes and bags, much less go school. I’m very happy to make donation to those African who need urgent supplies. Most important, this event lets me think twice before I buy clothes.
