愚人節真的不可太大意,莫非什麼時候要現身擺你一道,很—難—說。
還在機場當地勤時的某一天,做完幫旅客辦登機手續的工作後,我輪到還要做的幕後工作是,拿著同事校對過的名單,上飛機去跟名單上的旅客一一檢查,他們是否還持有紙本機票。(在紙本機票還很盛行的年代,從旅客飛離的地點取得紙本機票,是航空公司手續重要的一環。)
那天的名單無止盡的長,當我一一檢查完後,很冤枉的,沒有一個旅客還持有紙本機票,意味給我這份名單的同事根本耍白痴來著,他沒好好做他應該做的事,使得我白忙一趟。更甚,我隱約知道逗留在飛機上的時間太長了。所以當我從飛機的最後一排座位飛奔到商務艙卻沒看到開著的機艙門時,我就知道大事不妙。
在我手心就要開始滲汗的當下,座艙長看到了我馬上說:「他們跟我說所有地勤人員都離開飛機了呀!」就在她轉身聯絡機長機上還有我這位落網之魚時,我從機艙門門上的玻璃窗往外一望,靠,連空橋都收了!
座艙長通知完機長也來站在機艙門後跟我一起等,我好奇問她,她做空服人員幾年了,「二十年了!」她說。我又問,那遇過幾次像我這樣不小心被關在飛機裡的地勤人員,「沒遇過!」她回我。
等到空橋再次貼上飛機,座艙長親自幫我開機艙門,在空橋上幾位要等飛機後推才會離開的同事們,看到我的第一個反應是同聲哄堂大笑。
那天,剛好是愚人節。
我好像也聽到莫非的笑聲。

One should never be too careless on April Fool’s Day—who knows when Murphy’s Law will decide to strike?

Back when I was working as a check-in agent at the airport, one of my duties, after assisting passengers with check-in, was to take a pre-checked list and board the plane to verify whether any of the listed passengers still had their physical tickets. (In the days when physical tickets were still widely used, collecting them from departing passengers was an essential part of airline procedures.)
That day, the list seemed endless. After painstakingly checking every passenger, I found—to my dismay—not a single one still had their paper ticket. This meant my colleague, who handed me the list, had utterly wasted my time by failing to do his job properly. Worse still, I had a nagging feeling that I had lingered on the aircraft for too long.
So when I dashed from the last row of economy class to the business cabin, only to find the aircraft door closed, I instantly knew I was in deep trouble.
Just as my palms began to sweat, the cabin manager spotted me and exclaimed, "But they told me all ground staff had left the plane!" She quickly turned to contact the captain, while I glanced through the glass panel of the aircraft door—damn, even the jet bridge had been retracted!
After notifying the captain, the cabin manager joined me by the door. Curious, I asked how long she had been a flight attendant. "Twenty years," she replied. I then asked how often she had encountered a ground staff accidentally locked inside a plane. "Never," she said.
When the jet bridge was finally reattached, the cabin manager personally opened the aircraft door for me. As I stepped onto the bridge, my colleagues, who were waiting for the aircraft to push back before they could leave, burst into uncontrollable laughter the moment they saw me.
That day just happened to be April Fool’s Day.
I could almost hear Murphy is laughing too.
