This is an idea tells you how to study History (or what ever) correctly and usefully.
Some students like me are confused about their graduating and learning, they think learning is difficult and not very useful in future life. Especially in learning history, they think it is strange and nonsense to read things thats happened and unchanged.
Before the discussing about that, I have a question for you: Can you repeat the hole story”Three pigs”?
Answer may be Yes! How easy this question is! Even the characters in this story doesnt really exist in the real world, we can repeat the hole story from beginning to the end, even we can discribe the main meaning of the story!
Please take a rest, and try to remember the time when you read this story first time. Did you spend time to memorize the characters in the stories? Did you stop reading the story to try to filt the situation happend in the story? Did you read this story for test or get the idea from story, apply in daily life?
That is! We dont do that ”stubid”thing while reading and studing, we think about”What can i get from this”, and we even dont aware about if we are thinking about this while reading the stories! We improve ourself after read the stories, and also we know what makes we better, what can change the hole world, what did people do in past in the same situation with us!
And this is the main problem,too. Most of student dont think about these while studing history and other subject out of school. For example: When Taiwanese student studing the history of Taiwan after 1949( After Chinese Civil War ), most of people just memorize the process of the development of industries, or try to list down the”Nouns”in Taiwan history. But the thing we can learn from Taiwan history is definitely more and more than the words. Just like the story of “Three pigs”, it didnt tell any one word of”honest”or”be real”, there is only the process of the three pigs and that bad wolf. But we still learn a lot of this”unhistorical”story, probably more than the story tells, then apply in our daily life. Just because the way that you read these things!
So next time, when youre are learning something or tring something, dont forget this! Try to get the main idea of it, try to learn things from it! Wish you grow up after read the article!
