週三文法 — 信不信由你

Believe it or not. 信不信由你。
這個慣用語的解釋是，
This is used to ease doubts on the truth or authenticity of the things referred to.
這個用語是用來釐清或平緩有關提及的事情的疑點和澄清。

例如：
That’s what happened, believe it or not.
這就是發生事情的始末，信不信由你。

The inference is the listener has the option of believing or not. However, whether or not he does it unimportant. The fact will remain true regardless of the listener’s agreement. 當事情很難解釋的時候，很常出現這個句型。聽這段話的人可以有選擇相信與否的權利，而說話者只是表達，無論聽話的人相不相信，事實發生就是如此。

例如：
What belongs to you is no longer yours, believe it or not.
你曾經擁有的東西再也不是你的了。信不信隨你。

這是比較令人驚嚇的狀況。但是聽的人會很清楚，這不只是一種陳述，而是不知道的事情正在發生。需要去理解發生了什麼事。

你表達決心的時候也可以用，避免爭吵。
例如：

Believe it or not, I won’t go there.
你相不相信都沒關係，我不會去的。
