段落二:表達或解讀上(in terms of interpretation),所造成的誤會(misunderstandings)或困擾(problems)
(1). 喜歡用表情符號的理由 the reason that people prefer using emojis to communicate
(2). 該表情符號的溝通功能the communicative function of (a certain) emoji
The problems [it/this emoji] causes [in terms of communication/interpretation]
Para. 1.
TS: People prefer emojis to verbal expressions in terms of internet communication for their simplicity of expression.
SS: What emoji→ For instance, I can express my anger with a single staring emoji to my friend who has offended me.
CS: One angry face can express my dissatisfaction, without writing out my feelings verbatim.
Para. 2.
TS: If the sender doesn’t make his/her message clear, [despite its simplicity of using], a staring face can cause confusion and even misunderstanding for the receiver.
SS: My friend might not get the point and thinking I am getting angry without a cause.→[To avoid miscommunication], I would clarify my intended message by [explaining it in words briefly]
CS: An emoji can be an effective auxiliary means of communication for online conversations.
[TS] People prefer emojis to verbal expressions in terms of internet communication for their simplicity of expression. [TS-A]* They can convey a message without typing the entire thing out. [SS] For instance, I can express my anger with a single staring emoji to my friend who has offended me for blurting out something insulting during the conversation. [CS] One simple angry face can express my dissatisfaction, without writing out my feelings verbatim.
[TS] If the sender doesn’t make his/her message clear, despite its simplicity of using, a staring face can cause confusion and even misunderstanding for the receiver. [SSs] [As in the example mentioned earlier], my friend might not get the point of my taking his words personally but thinking that I am getting angry without a cause. Therefore, he might misunderstand my message and misjudge me as bad-tempered. To avoid miscommunication, I would clarify my intended message by adding short sentences to explain that I don’t appreciate his choice of words. [CS] With a brief explanation, an emoji can be an effective auxiliary means of communication for online conversations.
*TS-A, Topic sentence-additional explanatory sentence
為了字句的「銜接性」(cohesion),筆者加上句子”they can convey a message”來補充說明”their simplicity of expression”:
Line 1: [. . .] for their simplicity of expression.
Line 2. They [emojis] can convey a message without texting the entire thing out.
