This is not just a coincidence—scientists say there is a special reason behind it.

When people take a bath, go fishing, or exercise, the brain isn’t focused on specific tasks and is free to wander. In this relaxed state, the brain produces more dopamine and alpha waves, which help spark creativity. On the other hand, when you are working hard or feeling exhausted, it is harder to think outside the box or come up with new ideas.

According to scientist Sian Beilock, people are more likely to have creative thoughts in the early morning and late evening. Psychologist Keith Sawyer from Washington University calls this the “3B Rule”: bathtub, bed, and bus—three places perfect for relaxing the mind and generating ideas. The bathtub tops the list because it helps people feel deeply relaxed. Bathing is one of the easiest activities for the brain to handle, and since we are usually alone in the bathroom, our thoughts are less likely to be interrupted.
