The benefits on exercise_2024.04.25

複習今日所學~有關於運動!真心覺得運動完的感覺很讚,但很難「開始」,大概就是萬事起頭難吧嘻嘻。

My interest on exercise in my childhood

When I was little, my parents always encouraged me to try every type of exercising with my dad accompanying me to do whatever I felt like. Thus, I got accustomed to exercising every day, and it became my habit. At that time, I also found some benefits from it. First, I ate more after exercising. Because both of my parents were fantastic cooks, it was lucky to be able to eat more. Second, my mood would be lifted after exercising, and I could be more focused on my study after sweating a lot.

I loved running the most because of the convenience . Every day about 8 PM, I would go to the stadium with my father, and ran about 2 km. Running was my favorite exercise at that time.

The benefit on exercise

This week, I also went for a research on the benefits of exercising. And I had listened to a TED show by Wendy Suzuki, who said that we would have three benefits from exercising 3 to 4 times a week, 30 minutes for each. The more I learned, the more I realized how powerful the exercise was.

1.A single workout can immediately increase levels of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. That is going to light up our mood. It shows immediate effects on your brain.

2. Improved attention function dependent on our prefrontal cortex. A single workout can improve our ability to shift focus and extend attention span. And that focus improvement will last for at least two hours.

3. Protective effects on our brain. It can decrease the chances of cognitive disorders.

The transformation on my choice

However, things changed when I was in senior high. I started experiencing ankle pain after jogging, but doctors couldn't find the reason. So, when I entered university, I decided to choose another sport that wouldn't strain my ankles. I hoped this sport would have three advantages: less density, easy to find partners, and affordable equipment. Eventually, I chose ping-pong.

The chellenge I face

Now, ping-pong is my favorate sport and I play it approximately 3-4 times a week. However, I'm facing challenges now and trying to deal with them. My coach and teammates at the stadium are always concerned about my progress. To be honest, it is out of my control. It's no longer just for fun; it feels like pressure, instead. I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to, which wasn't my original intention.
